Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. (Galatians 6:10 NIV)
“Treat others as you would like to be treated”; “Love God and love your neighbour”; “Heart to God and hand to man” – the Golden Rule, the Great Commandment, and a catchy slogan.
Call them what you will, each of these ‘maxims’ reflect a deeper truth, which is that as people we need others, we are wired to be in community with others. As such we have a mutual responsibility to one another, to do good as the Apostle Paul writes.
Are we to show favouritism only to those who subscribe to the same faith as us? Are we to give preferential treatment solely to those who profess to have the same beliefs as us – to the exclusion of others in our communities? No!
It is precisely because of our place in the family of believers that we must work for the good of all, not just those closest to us but those within our sphere of influence as we have opportunity.
Preach it TT!
